Windows 11 The Future of Computing.

What’s the big deal about windows 11?

What’s the big deal about Windows 11?

Windows 11 is the latest creation from Microsoft, yes that’s right, the company that told us windows 10 would be their last operating system has decided to release another one. Am I the only one that isn’t surprised?

With the huge shift in the way we all work and the way we keep in touch, Windows 11 is focused on making everything easier.

Microsoft have thought long and hard about the way in which we feel when using a computer, adding subtle touches to make things feel calm while we do what we need to do.

Only time will tell if the frustration’s associated with previous versions have been dealt with.

Take a look for yourself at the new look OS.

Microsoft are yet to announce a release date for windows 11, but they have hinted at it being towards the end of 2021.

What will it cost?

For users of Windows 10, with compatible devices, Microsoft will once again be offering the upgrade to Windows 11 for free. The upgrade will be delivered through the usual windows update channel. Which has been said to have had a big revamp, with updates being 40% smaller and moved to the background so that they don’t interfere with the work you are doing. The free upgrade will be available for at least 12 months after release. The windows 10 free upgrade was available for a few years, and there are still ways for doing it now. We suspect this will be similar for Windows 11.

Will my computer from the 1990’s work with Windows 11?

Microsoft have released the minimum system requirements for the new OS, which to some may seem a little strange, until you remember that Windows 11 has been specifically designed to be the most secure version in its history.

Most PC’s and laptops built after 2017 will be compatible. However, it is best to check with your device manufacturer to be sure.

Microsoft’s official statement regarding devices that are not compatible is to “upgrade to a new device”. Not exactly the environmentally friendly stance we were expecting, especially during the current technology shortage around the world. Only time will tell if the availability of tech will increase when demand increases even further.

What if I don’t want to upgrade?

We are being told that the upgrade to windows 11 is not mandatory. Windows 10 will continue to be supported until October 2025.

With that being said. Microsoft does have a subtle (ish) way of constantly nagging you to upgrade, much like they did with Windows 10. This earnt them quite a lot of backlash, let’s hope they have learnt their lesson.

For earlier versions of windows such as windows 7, 8 and 8.1 it is not yet clear as to whether or not you will be able to upgrade to windows 11 directly or for free.

If you are using one of these older versions of windows for business, you seriously need to ask yourself why??? Unless you are limited by a specific piece of business critical software you really should have upgraded a long time ago. Out of date software is a huge risk to your business!
